Why does there have to be someone 'at fault' here? She was an 82 year old woman whose husband died previoulsy, she had no biological children, was probably declining in health, and didn't want to live anymore. Although this could have been some accident and she slipped into the water, elderly people more and more want to decide themselves when their lives are no longer worth living. She lived a long life - longer than the average person in this country - and probably wanted to end it on her own terms. If that's the case, let her rest in peace.report abuse

I wouldn't even call this a "facility." It appears more like an upscale hotel. Elderly people go there to live have a few $$$$. They also go there to live because they want to continue to "live independantly" but know that they have access to help if they need it. Meals are provided but they all have kitchenettes to prepare their own meals if they want. If this lady chose to take a walk that morning it really would be none of the employee's business unless she was putting herself in obvious danger. Many people do not understand the difference between assisted living, nursing home etc. There are different levels of care. They are not all one of the same.report abuse

Kal the facility is not on the river in fact it is up on a knoll that you drive up to. Then there is the road and Thomas college, Waterville junior high school on the side that separates the facilities from the river. So, there is quite a bit of space she would have had to walk down the knoll, across the road and down through the field woods and other debris to get to the river.
It is a sad case. that unfortunately will be picked apart and drug out for a long time.report abuse
