Yes, the Federal Government should address this issue with more gusto-but then the state, and the towns, and yes the newspapers should also get more active and support and demand other forms of energy. This newspaper's opinions have been nothing but vitriolic in regards to those people who support keeping Fort Halifax Dam,a wonderful source of renewable energy, yet in numerous articles and opinions address the serious issues of the energy crisis. It is like speaking out of both sides of their mouth. If nothing else, they should have supported these people trying to do what is right.report abuse

How about tax credits or low/no interest loans for weatherization. More volunteering by local organizations, churches, looking in on one's neighbors. LIHEAP is NOT the answer, but it certainly is PART of the answer. Nuclear is not practical for the short term, but wood is.

Conservation until new sources come online is the best choice right now.report abuse

First, lets not be dependent of foriegn nations for oil. second, we need more Nulclear Power Plants 3) We less restrictions on Hydro and Wind Power 4) those of use that can, burn what we have, we have wood. It makes ZERO sense to me that we live in a state that is 90% forested, but we are heating our homes with a substance that is shipped halfway around the world? Does that make sense? No. For those of us that can, burn a wood by product or corn grown here.
4) Increasing LIHEAP is NOT the answer. We want the govt to get out of our lives and only help those in dire straits.report abuse
