One more thing I almost forgot, under the Castle Doctrine if you shoot a burglar, they can't sue you or collect damages.report abuse

The AP version of this story has a quote from Kennebec County Sheriff Randall Liberty; "Liberty said he discourages the use of guns to protect property. "I can understand the frustration that Mr. Lord must have been experiencing," Liberty said. But, he added, "We don't want to see anyone get hurt over property

That's why theives keep coming back, and why they're so brazen in Maine.

In Texas we have a little law called the
"Castle Doctrine" If someone enters your yard, or garage or house, you can shoot to kill. Typically charges cannot be filed against the homeowner. Breakins still occur, but the gene pool gets smaller every day.

Your county sheriff doesn't understand that theives turn in to assailants, rapists, and murderers because they keep getting away with it?
And homeowners are afraid to shoot at intruders? Sounds more like the People's Republic of California, not the self sufficient people of New England.report abuse
