You make good points, Paul. As a boomer, I don't think I can recall at any time in my life where the US hasn't been at war with one country or another for some reason. As I've said several times, there will come a point where the rest of the world will tell the US that enough is enough. We cannot invade Countries and demand they abide by our definition of democracy and impose our beliefs - just because we can. That is so arrogant and wrong.

Had we taken Saadam out of power and left, the world would have looked at us so differently than they do now - and we wouldn't be in this unprecendented dedt. I can say without reservation that GW is the worst President in my lifetime - and perhaps one of the worst in the history of this country.report abuse

I believe that many Americans cannot identify with either Democrat or Republican parties. If you try to make a moral argument against the Pentagon or the CIA you are not going to get support from either party. I think both parties forster the belief that the U.S. is an exceptional country. Scott McCllelan, former Press Secretary. Now he says Bush tried to coerce democracy on the Middle East and thinks that is wrong. Bush could not have done it without the support of both political parites, the Media, the military, and the country at large. The United States is like all countries. it is expansionist and is morally no different from any other country.

Much has been written in recent debates here on teh role of the Christian Right and its attempt to influence American policy on social issues like Gay Rights. The Catholic Church trys to influence society on laws against abortion.

The Christian Right strongly supports the State of Israel because it will bring about Armageddon and the reign of Christ for a 1000 years. Some on the Chrisian Right are strongly against Islam and hope for a return of a global war of Christianity against Islam.

What is missing in America and keeps me from belonging to any group is the total lack of moral questioning on the part of secular citizens and religious believers is any real attempt to bring peace to the world through means other than war or preparation for war.report abuse

I consider myself Independent, but I think Republicans have to realize that it's the Bush policies and arrogance that has been the downfall of the Rebublican Party. With 80% of the country against the current administration - something ain't right.report abuse

Mitchell & Anti

There has been a lot of water over the dam since the Joe McCarthy era. Give it a rest and stop calling Democrats, "communists."

In fact it was a Republican Senator, Maggie Chase Smith, who broke with McCarthy. She would not be happy with Republicans today throwing that accusation around willy nilly.

Mitchell, you wrote: "my opinion". Remember the proverbial adage; "opinions are like aholes...everyone has one.report abuse
