But they said losses in scenic and recreational opportunities would be offset by Plum Creek's plans to put large parcels of land under conservation easements to protect them from future development.

What good is this? People read conservation and think the land is pristine, but we that live here all know there will not be one tree on the land when they conserve it.

Plum creek only cares about money. Guess what you are not going to live forever, but the beauty of our Maine wilderness will. Why are you so set on doing damage when you are just a visitor here and life goes on after your gone. Very selfish people when it comes down to Money! Leave our Maine woods alone!report abuse

Maine needs to outlaw REIT's.

"Weyerhaeuser is taxed at a 35 percent corporate rate. Companies that have formed REITs, like Seattle's Plum Creek Timber, have reduced their tax bills to virtually zero, though stockholders still have a 15 percent capital-gains tax".
