Shawn - you can compare public school administration to private sector bosses all you'd like but the bottom line is that the act of cutting teachers before paper-pushing administrators says quite abit about SAD 9.report abuse

The number of teaching jobs lost due to budgetary concerns in MSAD 9 is quite sad. I'm particularly concerned about the reduction of the middle school health education position to half time. We've been told that half of the health education curriculum will be absorbed into other subjects, but to me this just waters things down and communicates to students that the subject isn't really that important. If we want to get the extremely critical topics of smoking, alcohol and drug prevention, sex ed (quite a number of pregnant girls at the high school this year), etc. across to students the best person to do that is a qualified health educator in a dedicated course. I'm terribly disappointed that the MSAD 9 board voted not to keep this position intact. The potential personal and social costs of this cut are heartbreaking. I, and many parents, will keep this issue in line when we vote for school board members in the future. Believe it or not, there are those of us who keep track of the way our board members vote.report abuse

There are less than 1/2 as many administrators in education as there are in business. Someone needs to be in charge and sort out all of the crap that is mandated by the state, and feds. Otherwise these teacher jobs will need to take on the responsibility. People bash schools for having too many administrators and supervisors, but look at a business with similar numbers of employees and customers and you will find we are getting a deal not only in the amount of work performed but the salaries as well.report abuse
