People use to say the same about social security numbers. People responsible for flying airplanes into the WTC, came thru Maine and boarded planes in Portland, we must learn from our mistakes and the REAL ID is a start.report abuse

I understand both the good points and bad points of Real ID. So why do I still feel that underlying uncertainty? So many people on these forum pages complain about government interference and control, yet they support a national database of driver information...curious.

Of course, illegals should not be getting licenses in Maine, or anywhere else. My objections to Real ID are limited to (1) fear of misuse of a national database); and (2) the cost of requiring local governments to prove documentation--if the Feds can order it, they should pay for it as well; (3) I think it only makes us FEEL safer.

Other than that, not a problem.report abuse

We already have Id/driver license and a data base with this information in it. This data base is acceptable to any government law enforcement. Each state has its own security standards. There are 50 different state data bases with your personal information in it some with very little security. This real Id produces a standard security system for Id’s and a secure data base.

This is not a communist plot. This secures the data that is already there. It protects your Id and attempts to prevent people who should not have an Id from get one.report abuse
