Knowing how long it takes to get an appointment with a good doctor or many medical procedures one realizes that there is not enough supply. How does throwing more money at the problem by insuring more people get more care?
What this approach will do is make more doctors and medical providers richer because they will only be able to see the same number of patients, so due to supply and demand and it being a sellers market in medicine they will be able to charge more. The wealthy will be able to cover the extra costs and get the care the prices will go up and the people left out of the system today will still be left out of the system.
The solution for Maine, and the whole country for that matter, is to create more medical schools, more nursing schools and more supply in general for medical services. That will bring the fees and prices down and shorten the waiting time for medical care while allowing more people to afford their own treatment.
There will be a great deal of lobbying by the wealthy medical community to prevent this approach from happening for obvious reasons. No doctor or medical provider wants more competition, they have a great deal now by limiting supply and having the feel good proposals by politicians putting a lot more money in the system for them to soak up like a big sponge in a white coat.report abuse
