Wake up would be my response to the students who think Maine/New England has such a mellow attitude. I can speak to both as a native Virginian and VA Tech Alumnus, and as a descendent of the first families in Maine (Noyes and Weston) whose roots are deep in Somerset Co. I have lived in both places and I can tell you they are very similar in idyllic ruralness. "Oh, this can't happen here" this is the same delusional attitude that allowed the situation in Blacksburg!! Trust me, you need to be aware and know this can happen anywhere, at anytime. All it takes is one misunderstood, isolated outcast that feels society is against them and they need to even the score. Truthfully, the time my family spent in Maine in the late 90's-2002 we met more edgy people who had an agenda than I ever met in B'burg in all my years living there as an undergrad and grad student. We farmed and were involved in 4-6 farmer's markets and some of the issues people brought up were astounding. There are alot of powder kegs out there! Blessed Be, Margot and no I am not an alarmist or paranoid:)report abuse

"The timing is unbelievable," said William Harwood, a Portland lawyer and co-founder of Maine Citizens Against Handgun Violence. "This is a wonderful confluence of events that was not planned."

"Wonderful"?

As good an example of a gun grabber dancing in the blood of victims of gun violence as can be found.

The only gun problem anyone can do anything about in these cases is making sure someone besides the madman has one.

Thinking a law will prevent a madman access to a firearm, car, 747 jet airliner, trailer truck, or any other means to mayhem is pure foolishness, illogical, and irrational.

Might just leave sane, law abiding, people to their own designs and allow them to protect themselves and those they're around by carrying with a permit.

There is no sane argument against it. Period.report abuse
