Min Wages laws only protect the people who are not worth more than min wage. If you are a hard worker than you will make more than min wage. If you are just employable then you will make only min wage. But then if you are lazy or know how to play the system you will work for the State and collect with out working. I know employers looking for hard workers and they pay more than min wage, but too many think they are worth more than they are. Look at the Legislators, they think they are worth more, they voted themselves a raise. Do you think they are worth it when every one else has to cut?report abuse

Here is something to chew on. Many of the minimum wage workers are mothers returning to the work force to help support their families. Here is a typical family. With just 2 kids-one in school the other childcare her costs (based on a local center fees) would be $170/wk for one in full time care and one in after school care. Her gross income for minimum wage for 40 hours would be $280. That leaves $110. If she has to drive any distance to work then subtract around another $30 for gas. That leaves $80 and I have not yet taken taxes out... The cost of living and of working has outstripped the minimum wage.report abuse
