Eirodann Eirodann of Waterville, ME I'm a little confused by Bill Cripes' comment. I was raised Baptist, so I am a little familiar with the REAL Jesus. In the Bible I read, Jesus himself spoke of God as his FATHER. Jesus did not presume to call himself God. He was submitting God's will. Perhaps Mr Cripes should reread his Bible.
Or better yet, perhaps he should come and see this production of Superstar. I found nothing blasphemous about this production. I found a Jesus who was struggling with the natural conflict his human desire to live and his God's plan for him, which required his symbolic and painful death. All of this is in the Bible, as well.
At any rate, Mr Cripes needs to remember that this is theater, not church.report abuse

wtvltaxpayer of Waterville, ME JP is right on the mark, this Opera House production is fantastic. As to Bill Cripe's comments, JCS is FICTION. That the portrayal of Jesus may not mesh with traditional Christian teaching is beside the point. It's theater, not church. Christian teaching does say that Jesus was both fully human and fully divine, and like us in all ways except sin. How that "fully human" part played out has been the subject of debate, especially whenever it is portrayed in a work of fiction. For those looking for a fabulous theatrical experience, go to the Opera House. For those looking for a more traditional view of Jesus, go to church or read the Bible. Bill Cripe of Waterville, ME As a child of the 60's and was a senior in high school when it debuted. I loved the music; owned the LP and had most of the songs memorized. then I saw the "movie" version a few years later after I had my conversion experience to Christianity.

It was then I realized how utterly blasphemous Jesus Christ Superstar was/is.

It is one think to take artistic liberties with all manner of fiction but to pervert the "Greatest Story Ever Told" into a humanistic abomination is deeply saddening.

Jesus--God come to Earth--for no their reason than to redeem us from our sinfulness, should not be portrayed as anyone less than God Almighty.

Will there be as wretched a portrayal of Mohamed next on the Opera House's agenda? I think not. Muslims tend not to be so understanding or tolerant.
