Wayne- I could agree with your statement. It just bothers me that people can abuse State programs for whatever reason and then whimper or whine when they lose something. I did not like some of the kids that my children went to school with but that is life. Mystery could not find any that she wanted her precious kid(s)to mingle with!report abuse

Razorback,
Maybe I shouldn't respond regarding this other post, but thought I might help understanding. I believe that Mystery Curious in Maine (MCM) has a right to "borrow" school books from the school district because in one way or another MCM contributes to the funding of public schools - either directly through property taxes, or indirectly (if renting) through a landlord's property taxes. If I am "interfering" or wrong, I apologize.

BTW, I think this should change, in that those who home school, or use private schools, should be given a reduction, or at least a credit on a portion of their taxes that go towards the support of public schools, so they needn't pay for both. Any benefit or activity within the public schools then used by said home schoolers should have a fee added to cover the cost of that benefit.report abuse

Is the intent to encourage high school students who choose to attend Adult Ed. rather than the traditional 4 year program?
Answer: NO, it really is discouraging more "drops outs" by NOT attending Adult Ed. What is the sense, it's not going to count as a diploma! This is highly ridiculous.

A "true Drop Out" doesn't have a diploma nor did they finish 4 years of High School, regardless if 2 years where in the traditional classrooms and the remaining 2 years attended at Adult Ed. Night classes-followed with High School Graduation Ceremony and presented with a legit H.S. Diploma!report abuse

To Mystery Curious in Maine-  Homeschooling your children is your choice but why do my taxes have to pay for the school books that you borrow.  I do not have any children in the education process but still have to pay outlandish taxes.  Also I would like to know about this way of counting dropouts!  If 10 kids drop out of school and 3 get a diploma or vocational training, 10 kids STILL DROPPED OUT!  That is how I was taught to count below the border in the USA!  If people choose to home school, you took your childrens privilege of interacting with other ill dressed kids away from them. They are really going to be surprised when they visit the US from Maine and see how other people live.report abuse
