I find it very interesting that the State of Maine keeps raising fees to keep from raising taxes. What a novel idea. Perhaps we can have businesses institute a fee for entering and exiting their business to help cover the cost of the taxes being passed back to them. Better still lets pass the cost of state government back to you as a citizen through property taxation. Oh, I forgot that is what they are doing isn't it. I just can't wait for the local tax assessors and tax collectors when they have to answer that question when the irate citizens come in to pay the increase in property taxes caused by the so-called balancing of the budget. The party that is working on passing a majority budget is going to see to it that you can't afford to take your children to camping sites owned by the State of Maine. Have we forgotten who the State of Maine is? The last thing we need to do is to own or own land then assess a fee for ourselves to use it. Isn't that the grandest scheme you have ever heard? Especially when you raised tax money to purchase and maintain most of these parks? Oh well, with those elderly and less fortunate the State probably will keep you from camping anyways. You will be working more to pay your property taxes and won't have time to go camping anyway. By the Way, balancing the budget includes a $369,000,000.00 increase from the last budget. I am predicting that we will be reading in a month or so about another "budget deficit" as this legislature has not looked at reality of diminishing returns because jobs are lost and companies move because they can't fight the regulations and taxes in Maine. Don't forget folks Maine owes the hospitals about $300,000,000.00 as well as for nursing homes and other MaineCare providers. Alas, to think that you thought you were being well informed by the government and media.report abuse

They must have someone in Augusta who sole job is to find ways of increasing tax revenue in the most convoluted ways possible. Soon they will charge taxes on tax.report abuse
