Towgo, OPEGA uncovered fraud and referred it to the AG's office. When was the last time a Maine reporter uncovered fraud that was prosecuted?

OPEGA pays for itself. Do you think the 5 million in cuts to economic development programs would have happened as part of budget balancing of OPEGA hadn't issued a report that largely said the money was wasted and unaccountable for results? Now there is a winning issue for any politician in Maine - cut economic development NOT. Without the OPEGA report for deep and complete cover any politician doing that in Maine would be opening themselves up for a loss at the ballot box.

And how did Sen. Martin avoid mention in this story? It was his amendment to gut OPEGA. That is how effective Maine reporters are Towgo, they can't even get to the source of the story.report abuse

Towgo - OPEGA is worth the money even if there is only slight hope the Democrat controlled Legislature and Governor will ever look at the reports and follow the recommendations to make Maine government more efficient and accountable.

It's a faint hope...but a hope nonetheless. Better still would be the voters rising up and voting out all incumbents this November....probably an even fainter hope.report abuse

I can't believe that people think that we need to spend that kind of money just to tell us something we all ready know. But I guess most Republicans don't mind spening money needlessly, thier only problem seems to be paying for it. We could do like our Federal level Republicans do, just spend and borrow. Maybe one of you Republicans/Conservetives can explain how the office of OPEGA can do any better job than our news reporters which we don't have to pay. Oh ya, that only works if it's a Democrate, because if it's a Republican, that's called libral bias. Wake up people.report abuse

Brian,

I never vote on party lines. I vote for the person. That's the way I feel it should be.

Now here's the sad thing, A Dem. is going to be in the White house come this fall. Hill or that muslim guy, sorry I can't remember his name and I'm not trying to offend anyone but I say muslim because I know he was raised as a muslim and that's all I know about him, or want to.

We just need to vote for the less evil of the two, I do know we need a change in there. We can't take 4 more years of this.

Again, I apoligize if I offended anyone saying the truth about his upbring.report abuse
