"Are our lawmakers and their bureaucrats all without a clue ?"

Hence my proposal to tax anyone elected to state level public office at the rate of $.25 per pound...annually.

If nothing else we'd have fewer of these numbnuts running for office....and maybe they'd start to understand about some of these "fees" they stick us with.

Yes, I know, protecting children from lead is important...but aren't there enough laws and regulations about it already?

Yes, lead poisoning is preventable.....would it be that grandstanding politicians were as easily prevented.report abuse

Maine's phobia of lead and its mercury paranoia is crippling our common senses ! A woman breaks a light bulb in Maine and the State DEP calls for a $2,000 cleanup that makes national headlines. The amount of mercury in that light bulb is 1/10 of that in just one of her fillings !!!
A state lawmaker lets his child chew on a painted surface and he rushes through legislation that will cost us dearly in these hard times, yet yield no guarantee or freedom from ignorance.
What is happening with these nut cases ? Are our lawmakers and their bureaucrats all without a clue ?report abuse

Better yet, how about a law to fine/jail those people that expose their 18 month old children to lead during renovations.report abuse

Hey Augusta, got a problem being responsible for your own family? Quick, make a law, tax, fee, fine, so everyone will "Feel Good" about you and then throw lots of that money at your problem and it will be fixed. OR, Maybe be responsible for your family and get a lead survey done first, then decide whether to buy or rent or whatever. Lead has been known as a big problem for many many years. What makes you think that taxing the nonleaded paint and throwing the money into the general (DHHS) fund is going to make any difference in any childs life. Oh wait a minute, it's not to help anybody but the state government to "Feel Good" and prove to the nanny state citizens, that we "Care" about you. And you get to generate revenue from another tax. Remember people, you get what you vote for!!!report abuse
