Hey Peter Moulton - yanno what I like best about Wachovia?

The fact that the bank's COO is a graduate of Brunswick High and could high jump right about 7 feet at one point. Dave Julian is a righteous dude.report abuse

"4.2 million credit card and debit card numbers and passwords" at risk.

This article mentions six illegal uses of the cards. It sounds like small potatoes so far but makes a great news story and the credit card companies might get to hock some fraud protection.report abuse

What a shame that so many people would be willing to stop using their ATM, debit and credit cards---on the grounds that they feel carrying cash is safer. It's not safer---it's much, much riskier. If you lose your wallet with your cards inside, all you have to do is notify your bank to have them replaced. If you carry Visa products, you're covered against theft or unauthorized usage due to their Zero-Liability policy (regardless which bank services that Visa.) But if your lost wallet is full of cash, that's it---you're out of luck. I currently work for Wachovia Nat'l Bank, which is based in Charlotte, NC. We're the fourth largest bank in the country. We were immediately notified of this security breach (and no, this isn't the first one in recent years: JCPenney, TJMaxx/Marshalls, have also been victims.) As soon as our first customer notified us of the advertisements running on TV (in Florida, they were sponsored by the Sweetbay stores, a subsidiary of Hannaford), we were on it! We notified all our bank departments and branches (over 125,000 employees!) and told them how to assist customers who had any questions about this security breach. I've been reading the Morning Sentinel online edition and have been keeping abreast of how some of the local (Maine) banks have been assisting their clients---charging them replacement card fees, and holding them liable for the first $50 or $500 in unauthorized chargres (if not notified within two business days.) This is a shame! If you feel your bank is taking advantage of you during this susceptible time, it's time for you to switch banks!! As far as Hannoford is concerned, they need to be a bit more forthcoming with the communications to all of its patrons.report abuse
