Why should pay raises be automatic due to a sharing and/or combining of administration, transportation, and other costs and obligations? Is it because the Maine Teachers' Union requires it? I think salaries should be commensurate with ability, performance, and results. The combining of distrcits, or individual community's schools should not bring added burdens (prior incurred obligations) from those units which have them to bear on new members who agree to join. Nor should taxpayers of any be subjected to additional real estate taxes due to the formation of the larger conglomerations suggested in this plan, if it is enacted or agreed to.report abuse

School consolidation is going to save HOW much money? An additional $1.3 million to bring Union 52's teachers' salaries up to the level of Messalonskee's doesn't sound like much of a savings to me -- I'm a retired Messalonskee history teacher not a math teacher, but it still doesn't compute as a savings. Maybe the state's share will be less, but watch your local property taxes in Winslow, China, and Vassalboro increase dramatically.report abuse
