The dam is going to be removed. Why argue and fight it anymore. All those in the impoundment will end up with additional land when the water level go down. Many fish did at one time migrate farther up the Sebasticook. Among them are the alewive, Atlantic Salmon, Striped Bass, and Sturgeon. Did you happen to notice that 2 of those 4 are endangered species. It would be nice to potect some of those fish that the mills almost make extinct. Also the houses were only effected by the extra fill that was out in place without and thing to stop the dirt from sliding of into the river. That is why you need trees and brush to take root and protect land from sliding. I grew up fishing on the Sebaticock in Winslow and I can remember the junk fish that I caught mostly. So this in my opinion is in the best intrest of the enviroment. Time to clean up all those mistakes we made in the past.report abuse

Al Althenn, so in the past 100 years sea run fish have not produced. My guess is they are extinct now. I am sure that you want alternative energy choices too. There has to be a balance in lifereport abuse

When the Lockwood dam was removed in Augusta, the people who favored dam removal said it would allow fish passage to Waterville. Yes, fish can now migratye another 17 miles of the river But did it do any good? The world class brown trout and landlock salmon fishing in Waterville is completly gone. Trout Unlimited always said there was great fishing there but I don't hear them saying that now. Augusta also had world class striped bass fishing below the dam from May 15th to Oct 15th. Now you are luckey if you have 4-5 weeks in the spring and the same in the fall. With high energy prices you have also lost cclean/renewal hydo power. Now the so called experts want to take another dam. FPL should have been required to put in some sort of fish passage. Not cost effective, bull. The Benton dam put one in and the Hathaway power station did also. Why couldn't Lockwood and Winslow dams do the same thing? To me it just doesn't make sense!report abuse

Removing this dam will solve the worlds nutritional problems....that's cool. The world hasn't had any protein for the last 100 years all because of this dam.....thanks for the info, Al.

M.Smith....can you please make a list of the sea-run species that will benefit inland lakes?

Are lamprey eels one?report abuse
