Having seen the displays at Mt Blue, I want to note that the article incorrectly states that the cut-outs represent women murdered in Maine - they actually represent 18 people (including men and children) murdered in Maine in the past 3 years in domestic violence cases. Regardless, national statistics show that lethal domestic violence is often gender biased.

Regarding the statistic used in the article, it is indeed only one of many statistics that the students posted around the school. If you want to see other statistics on dating violence and domestic abuse in Maine, you might check out this website: http://www.mcedv.org/

I want to give kudos to the Mt Blue Students as well – good job bringing awareness about a pervasive social issue to the forefront!report abuse

Folks, please notice that this event is being done by a club, which is an extra curricular activity. These are young people who have taken it upon themselves to raise awareness about a significant social problem which impacts both youth and adults. I believe that their educating themselves and their peers will enable them to build a better future for our young people. They deserve our support and praise for tackling an important issue. Great job, MBHS students!report abuse

"the girls also are making cut-out, life-size silhouettes of the 18 Maine women who were killed during domestic violence attacks in the past three years."

Why don't they make a cutout for Mr. Smart....you know, the guy killed by his wife's 16yo boyfriend because she wanted him dead. I guess that doesn't count....only women are victims of domestic violence and abuse.report abuse
