The concerns of the cemetery operators are not unique. Many cemeteries face similar struggles, as people choose cremation over burial. Have the operators considered going "natural"? The oldest cemeteries in your area, I'm sure, predate the modern burial, which involves embalming, etc., and there is a growing movement to return to earlier methods. It's a natural way to go green. Cremation is not without its hazards, as the mercury in our dental fillings pollutes the air during the process.
Other problems cemeteries face include a squeeze by other development -- what is a cemetery, but a prime piece of real estate? A cemetery here in South Jersey is threatened by a highway bypass proposed to alleviate congestion in a small town. Well . .a vet can be buried in a regular cemetary of course, but it's not maintained by the government. And, spouses can be buried with the vet along with minor children - so it's not a total loss . .report abuse

Although I'm sure there are some people who would rather be burried with their buddies in stead of next to the nagging (insert appropriate female relative here)report abuse

So to get funding to have your grave taken care of (if you're a vet) you can't be burried with your family? Ridiculous.report abuse
