Renee and Composer: Good points!
Rick and Jonathan: There is certainly enough blame to go around when it comes to our involvement in Vietnam. However, in all fairness, I have to blame a Democrat, Harry Truman, for starting the tar-ball rolling. It was his decision to support the return of the French colonialists to Indo-China that led to our military support for the French and then, after they were defeated at Dienbienphu and decided to leave, the Eisenhower Administration continued the folly by refusing to allow the agreed-upon elections that would have unified Vietnam. Then "Advisors," then Special Forces, then hundreds of thousands of troops, etc. Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon...all had their share of responsibility for the needless deaths and terrible destruction.
You'd think that Americans would have learned NOT to get sucked in again. But, here we are, stuck in another tar pit, thanks to Bush's inability to learn from Vietnam.
mikes: Seems like you need to do some serious research, instead of relying on the Fox News version of history. The UN DID NOT "OK" Bush's invasion of Iraq; on the contrary, Bush didn't dare to ask the UN to approve the invasion, because he knew that if they refused, he wouldn't have a prayer of justifying his invasion. Check it out.
Sherman: Actually, there have been polls of Iraqis who responded by a large majority that they had been BETTER off under Saddam. Not that Bush cares.report abuse
