Re comment from Roughrider "Turn your credit card debt into savings". Perhaps you are unaware that the federal government now allows credit card companies to charge interest rates and fees that would put loan shark rates to shame. So people who have incurrred debt, whether for unnecessary items or necessary medical care or living expenses due to unexpected unemployment, are now facing a nearly insurmountable Grand Canyon of debt they may never be able to climb out of so they can begin saving. If there is one piece of financial advice I would give young people, it is do not get sucked in by credit cards and "easy credit" - they are ruining the financial health of Americans. By the way, what kind of example does our own country or state government set with deficits?report abuse

The government is not responsible for YOUR retirement. Save and plan for your own retirement. We're complaining about how much in debt our country is and then a particular age group starts expecting MORE?report abuse

No one will be able to afford the "free" health care.
It's time everyone pay attention to their own needs.
Save NOT spend should be the motto.
Turn your credit card debt into savings and you might make it through retirement.
Everyone needs to know there is no "Free Lunch"; YOU are responsible for YOU!report abuse

You think health care is expensive now, just wait until it's free!
Private individuals, of course, can do almost anything better than the federal government. The feds screw up everything they touch. Health care is a perfect example.
Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are not sustainable.
Best advice to the leading edge of the boomer generation: when you get older, don’t get sick. Or disabled. Don’t have a stroke or get Alzheimer’s disease or anything. Your tax dollars notwithstanding, the feds who lay claim to the fruits of your labors are effectively broke and massively in debt.report abuse
